Good God,
Quite comparing this kid to your crappy states. Outside of Robby Andrews, this kid could easily compete in NJ.
his 400 ranks him 3rd ALL time in New Jersey
his 800 ranks him 10th ALL time in NJ (clearly is has run faster.
His 16/ 32 time would probably be top 20. Not great but he wasn't pushed.
These are times for this ONE MEET.
His bests put him 3rd all time in the 400, 2nd all time in the 800, 4th All time in the 1600 (his 3200 is still out of the ranking but oh well).
p.s. dmr splits don't count for diddly.
Hartle seems like a good dude with a strong future. Let's promote American runners instead of tearing the down.
He wouldn't be near the top 20 in NJ All-Time in the 3200, and probably not the 1600 either. There's been about 50 kids from NJ in the 3200 faster than him (even adjusting for altitude) in the last decade alone.
And are you really questioning the validity of Cheserek's times? He ran 4:02.21 indoors for a full mile, I don't think a 1600m split of 4:00.3 is illegitimate.
I agree with you, we should be promoting high schoolers not tearing them down. But we should do so within reason: don't be calling any very good/impressive performance "Webb-esque" and dubbing them something they aren't.
Congrats to Hartle for the great quadruple, hopefully we'll see him line up with the other premier milers and half milers in one of the big races this summer!
