That's a solid performance, but there are plenty of people who could do that in a 2 day meet.

In high school? That is incorrect.

In high school? No, No way...
What you guys don't seem to grasp is this kid ran 47.7 and then WON distance races.
1:52,4:18, 9:28
Aren't that amazing... but coming from a kid that busts a 47.7 400m speed this is legit. haven't seen a pic of him or his body type... but this could easily be the most talented runner this year out of high school as far as potential goes. If you disagree you know piss about distance running.
Note that what he won was the Class 4A championships in Nevada (Is 4A biggest or smallest?)
Impressive range for 4 races especially in the 400 but there may have been others in Nevada at the other class sizes that may have run faster - I don't know.
Looks like equivalent to the State (Group) meet in NJ but in NJ there is a Meet of Champions afterwards with the top 6 in each group plus some at-large qualifiers.
I don't think many (any?) other high school distance runners could pull off that dope 400 time. Alan Webb split a 47.4 in a relay in high school and we all went nuts. Great performance for this guy.

would have been more impressive if you had used proper grammar.
If any of you are anything but impressed by this, then not only have you lost touch with reality, but are complete fools. Letsrun has degraded over the years at an exponential rate.

Please... give me an effing break. That 47.79 is the #33 time in the nation. Please name one other guy in the top 50 of the 400-meter list that can also run a sub-9:30 3200 in the same season, let alone in the same weekend.
Whatever, this guy sucks. I ran that 3200 time in high school too. Who cares..?
He ran 1:49 and 4:10 the year before to set the State Meet Records.
This year, he walked away with every title, winning the 800 by 3 seconds, the 1600 by 10 seconds, and the 3200 by 20 seconds . . . I would say that's pretty impressive. With a little competition, who knows what this kid would have ran.

Would have run. Learn the subjunctive, you idiot.
Rubberjohnny--"Would have run" is a fragment. It's a message board, loser. Get over yourself.
You're a fragment.

I would imagine 1:49-1:51 800m types can often run sub-48, so it's probably not as rare as you think. Still, certainly an incredible quadruple and he's clearly among the best in the nation this year. Would be interesting to see what Hartle, Magaha, Dickson and Malone could do in this kind of situation...
ahhhh i hate but also understand how this board is overrun with distance runners that don't have a clue.
Ok this kid is WAY better at the 400m then 800m and WAY better at the 800m then the 1600 or 3200. But yet this silly board reckons him a miler.
I say 800m at highest! why always the huge push to not only move up distances but move up several steps?? logically this kid could be a great 200m runner (but obviously with his good endurance 4/8 are the trick)
so i say keep working on that speed which is way harder to develop then endurance. start off running 400s in uni and then gradually move to the 8
I wonder what Obea Moore could have run for a deuce?

Before you talk about how stupid we all are, you might want to take five seconds to google this kid. If you did you'd find out that he ran 4:10 as a junior and 4:13 earlier this year at Mt. Sac. The 4:13 is basically equivalent to the 47.7 in terms of national ranking (~#35); if he repeats the 4:10 he will be close to the top 10.
He's also run 1:50.35 in the 800 this year, which is the #4 time in the nation. So your contention that he is WAY better at the 400 than the 800 doesn't quiiiite hold true. But thank you for taking the time to enlighten us.

They say he might be a miler because he doesn't have the speed to compete in the 200/400 at the collegiate (or above) level.
His best event right now is the 800, hands down. 1:49.91 is better than 47.79. I would agree that his 400 time is better than his 1600 PR (4:10.23), though. But looking towards his future, he isn't going to rub a 45.low in the 400 and so he isn't really going to be a factor in that race at the next level. However, with a little work he could be very good at the 800 and possibly 1500.
FYI, some of the other 800m runners over the past few years that actually ran the 400 often as well:
Jonathan Johnson 47.15 / 1:48.21
Jacob Hernandez 47.45 / 1:48.48
Tommy Brinn 47.83 / 1:49.27
Trent Riter 48.14 / 1:49.30
Wanliss O'Neal 47.33 / 1:49.62
Karjuan Williams - 47.14 / 1:49.97
James Gilreath - 46.62 / 1:49.98
Derrick Daigre 48.71 / 1:50.05
Aaron Stockstell 47.67 / 1:50.18
Michael Quercia 47.86 / 1:50.27
Terrance Livingston 47.70 / 1:50.32
Kyle Thompson 48.04 / 1:50.54
Lamarr Davis 47.46 / 1:50.58
Curtis Beach 47.96 / 1:50.75
Joseph Abbott 48.11 / 1:50.78
William Stovall 47.97 / 1:50.78
That's four that often ran both events and went sub-1:51 but didn't go sub-48 in the 400, and all but one of them were under 48.16... that is 12/16 that did. And I know of several others that split sub-48 (often a low 47) that also ran sub 1:51.
Running under 48 is very good, but it usually takes that kind of speed to run near 1:50 or better.
Nick Hartle is very good. 47xx speed and 1:49. The 800/1600 are his main events. He's also run 15:10 over 5000 meters in cross country!! Crazy range
It appears he has run almost no open 400s...the only one listed on his milesplit profile is the one from his state meet. I'd assume he had to run the 400 at the state qualifying meets in order to run it at the state meet. However, I have no idea how they do things there, so I could be wrong. Anyway, I bet he could run faster than 47.79 with a couple mores tries at it.
He also won the state cross-country meet his junior and senior years, and he has a 15:10 PR. He has some serious range, and could obviously go a fair site faster than 9:28. I'd be shocked if he couldn't go 9:05 or better, probably sub-9:00.
