Anna Maxwell, a sophomore at San Lorenzo Valley High School in the California Central Coast Section ran 4:48:11 in the 1600 at the sectional trials today. See here: http://archive.dyestatcal.com/ATHLETICS/TRACK/2012/ccstres.htm She beat Nikki Hiltz, a junior at Aptos High School, who currently has the fastest high school 1600 time in the country. The finals next Friday should be interesting. |

The California Central Coast Section currently has three of the fastest 1600 girls in the country. Nikki Hiltz 4:44.02 Anna Maxwell 4:48..11 Allison Sturges 4:52.17 Only Allison is graduating. The Sectional finals are Friday (5/25). |

Maxwell and Hiltz were in different heats. The rumor making the rounds at the meet was that Maxwell was going to drop the 1600 to focus on the 3200 at CCS finals. |

Too bad. She can really push Nikki.

is this supposed to be impressive? |

Call me when they run a full mile. |

Maxwell is her rabbit then Hiltz out kicks her. Happens every time. Good marks but we all know girls are often better younger. Let us know when they are in the 4:30s. In fact this is all boring me until a hs girl breaks 4:20. If a HS boy can run 3:52 why can't a girl run sub 4:20? Girls running is quite awful, I don't understand why people get excited about a 4:48 1600 unless you are her coach trying to get her name out there. Sorry. I one cares. |

Screw everyone in this post. I love Anna and Nikki. Nikki has a freaking incredible devastating kick, These two girls are really wonderful and I'm greatful that i live in Santa Cruz and Im able to see these two girls improve. They inspire me to keep running and i wish the best for them. |

I agree, no one cares about a 4:48 mile no matter who runs it. |

The fact that Anna's run the fastest Sophomore time in the country is impressive. And the 1600 isn't even her primary race. At the rate her times are dropping, she could be the top distance runner in the country her senior year, while Nikki will almost certainly have the title next year.

Uh, NEWSFLASH, Anna Maxwell is the same year as Mary Cain. Cain has run a 4:39 mile this year (roughly 4:37 1600), and 4:17 1500 (roughly 4:34 1600), in addition to her 2:03 last week. Maxwell is a very promising young runner and a 4:48 is a great sophomore time, but it's hardly record-beating, and I don't think she'll be best in the country as a senior. |

No, I'm not a coach. I don't even know the girls. But both have tremendous talent, so I thought I'd give them a shout out. In 4 or 5 years, you'll probably see them at Payton Jordan and Oxy. If you don't care, there's a simple option, ignore the thread.

Why would you drop an event to concentrate on another event your Sophomore year? |

I stand corrected. Mary's latest time wasn't listed on DyeStat. http://dyestat.rise.espn.go.com/state_indoor.jsp?state=&athclass=&seasontype=IN&seasonyear=2012

Again... How many boys have gone sub 4? At least that many should be sub 4:20 in the history of US running. Every year a number of hs boys get close to 4 flat. Girls should be close to sub 4:30 every year if not under. 4:48 is equivalent to what? A boy running 4:28? Again, sad and unimpressive. Female coaches need to step up, it is all quite depressing. 4:44, 4:48 is a good local time. The fact that it is elite nationally is just sad and pethetic. Nothing against these girls, it's just not that great. |

According to the IAAF scoring tables 4:36 is an equivalent sub-4 mile for girls. A 4:48 is worth a 4:06 for boys. Not bad. Men's Mile 3:59.99 - 1075 pts Women's Mile 4:36.23 - 1075 pts Men's Mile 4:06.80 - 993 pts Women's Mile 4:48.04 - 993 pts |

Evolution had other priorities than running fast when it was designing the female body. The fact that these girls can still run faster than 99% of boys out there is remarkable to me.

There was at least one sophmore girl at the New Balance indoor games that ran the full Mile in 4:49. Katie Fortner. Indoors. East coast baby. |

too bad she didn't run a 4:48 mile... |

She ran 1600, add 2 seconds. Those tables just reflect the sad state of female performances that's all. |
