I'm a junior. I usually go good race, bad race, good race, bad race, and so on. Well I really focked up this time. My PR's are 4:25/1600m (1 second from the qual) and 2:00/800m. And at championships I ran 4:30 (2:10, 2:20) and didn't make it out, and got DFL in the 800m with 2:08 (59,69). I'm so mad now, because my season is over, just like that. My goal this season is to break 4:20, and I've been on 2:00 for 2 years! |

| consistency is key! |

I have gone from being very inconsistent to very consistent from high school to college. I believe the key is really mental preparation. I think what most high school runners fail to prepare for is the pain of the race. Before races, you need to analyze how you are going to feel at the hard points of the race. Then by using coping strategies (i.e focusing on form, breathing, ect.) you will begin to see improvements. That's all good but the most single thing that has helped me is being a more positive person. Everything we do in our sport can be viewed as a positive. This is something you can practice everyday and eventually you will begin to be more positive in races as well. Positive attitude and mind set really does make all the difference. Good luck! |

How often do you race? What kind of effort do you put forth each race? On the week of races how many hard efforts do you run? |

For me, becoming more fit really improved my consistency. More mileage and high end aerobic work. Also, not putting so much pressure on yourself. You really set yourself up to blow up if you say "I gotta break 2:00 today or else I'm a loser" |

Change your attitude from "I need to run this time" to "I need to win this race or beat this person". Make the entire race just about competing with time as an afterthought. |

Well, my PR is only 10:05 for 2 miles (full effort, week before 4:25). My XC 5k PR is only 17:15. And I am planning on doing pretty big mileage this summer. *2 runs a day. *70-100mpw. (Idk, what ever happens) |

Be careful with jacking up the mileage and switching to doubles, sure it'll help your endurance but you won't get faster. You'll likely stay roughly the same speed. If your planning on doing speed work, repeats and tempo runs be carful as you could get hurt more likely then getting fast. Basically I'd say up the mileage a bit but focus on really prepping yourself for fall train a la summer of malmo |

Lol, you basically stated a bunch of reasons why S.O.M. doesn't work then you tell him to do it anyways. Does not compute. |
