How much time do I have to train to get close to my potential? 5/13/2012 2:20PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Hobbyjogged for a couple of years, now about to start more serious training.

I will do base training this year building up to 90 mpw and then race next year.

I like hobbyjogging 17 minutes 5k very much, but I would also like to see how fast I can go. So I decided to devote 2012-13 to training and achieve a PR close to my limit, and then continue hobbyjogging (doubles, high mileage and running 6 days a week, not for me). However I love running 3 or 4 times per week and I follow elite running as close as I can.

The question is:

Will I get close to my potential or at least have an idea of how fast I can go at 10k with 18 months of training?

If you want to get near your limit, high mileage for 2 years will not suffice, more like 5 or 6 is needed. The more the better.
