Odds of making it in running or poker? 5/9/2012 10:15PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Given an IQ of 135-145 and a high school mile time of 4:05-4:01, do you have a better chance of making a living playing poker, or running?

What about if you've only run 45-60 miles per week?

If you've never played poker but have a good chess background?

This is assuming you are willing to either move out of the country, or play online "illegally," not just cash games or tourneys.

I heard a Gambling Bill is in the works but has to pass through legislation which would make online poker legal in the USA but it would likely be government regulated. Also, IQ does not correlate to being a good poker player. I had to play for about 3 years until I finally started winning and truly understanding what it takes to win. I have watched some of my friends lose at poker, and just shake my head that 'you either have it or you don't' when it comes to poker skills.

I'd say they are about equal to the odds of you not being a troll.

You will make more money in poker if you are as serious as it takes to be a 4:05 miler. It isn't even close. Also you can't get injured in poker and you can do it your entire life. Although there isn't really a reason you couldn't do both.

If you honestly have no experience in poker in 2012 the chances of 'making it', whatever that may be, are extremely small.

In the last few years the knowledge gap has closed rapidly and there are now relatively strong players breaking even at small stakes who years ago would have been winning quite a lot very consistently.

Online poker is currently very bleak but there is hope that legislation will at some point allow a new influx of bad players into the market.
