My wife gives about $120/year to Minnesota Public Radio. She said she feels like she "should" donate because she enjoys public radio and listens to it often. I told her she should stop donating that money and put it to some better use. She didn't like that much. I told her to look at it this way: if you stop giving your money to public radio, nothing will change - you'll still be able to listen to all of your shows as you normally do. In other words, whether you donate or not makes no difference in the service/product you get. What do you think? |

Just like if you don't vote nothing will change. Therefore, no one (literally no one) should vote. Oh, and never donate to any commnity fundraisers either. It won't change anything. |

Public radio is mostly for woman so I can see why you wouldn't like money you probably earned going to something you dont use. |

You take this as an exaggeration, but YOU ARE THE PROBLEM WITH AMERICA. The sentiment of being an absolutely meaningless person that has zero influence is driving America down the tubes. You are completely detached from the community, and seem to baffled at the idea of supporting the good folks who beam quality radio (yeah, 99.9999% of public radio trumps the corporate top-40 crap out there) directly into your home. You suck. I donate to my local radio every pledge drive. I can hardly imagine a better destination for a couple hundred bucks. |

If public radio can't make it on its own, maybe they should look into being non-public radio. You know, in the real world, where you either perform and turn a profit or you go under. The OP was correct in administering this valuable lesson, for which his wife should be grateful. |

Yeah great idea, that's exactly what I want, literally every single source of media being beholden to a profit-earning corporation and corporate advertisers |
| her money |

Is it her money, or yours? If it's hers, it's none of your business. If she makes the money herself, she can flush $120/yr down the toilet if she feels like doing so. |

Huh? Public Radio does make it on it own, they are just financed by user contributions and corporate underwriting ( and a whooping 4.6% comes from public funds) instead of commercials. Hey, is this whole thread just a cleaver trolling attempt to get people to pledge to their local stations? Great idea! |

Well even if that little bit is hers he's probably paying for most other things so would still have a say. |

I think your wife should not invest any more time in you and divorce you. |

Blergghg! That's what I was suggesting, for people to pony up for the valuable service!!! What kills public radio is freeloaders like this guy. The djs on my local radio are 1000% better then the idiots on "private" radio that spin crap music because someone paid to get it on the air. They should be rich! Anyone who listens to corporate radio is a tool. Yes I mean you. Enjoy the mattress ads and top-40. Geez, maybe I should Occupy. But really, public radio is like my #1 cause. |
| yeah well |

Newsflash: "causes" are for suckers. |

What kind of man are you? Put your foot down and stop being a mega puss. Letting your wife boss you around, what a joke you are. |
| in that case... |

The OP doesn't appear to be using his brain, so using your logic he should let it die through neglect.

Yeah you should always assert manhood over every aspect of your relationship with your wife, especially over something meaningless like $120, which I would give to a bum on the street if he asked nicely enough |

What he said. |
| what's your point |

I don't really see your point. |

Pick your battles wisely. $120 a year? Sounds like a small amount. That's like 2 or 3 non-fancy restaurant dinners for me and my wife and kids. My position would probably be something like, "What a great idea honey! How about we go to bed?" |
