should college long distance (5k/10k) runners lift weights on a weekly basis? and if so what lifts would you advise

First thing is to focus on learning to do core lifts properly with free weights

Squad, Dead, Clean, Bench, military press


I'd skip snatch for a runner, although maybe you could do some with just the bar.

I am 45 and used to be able to do 18 arms fully extended hand over the bar pullups (20 years ago). Last night I went to the gym and couldn't do 2. Perhaps 6 kg heavier though.
Are pullups strength that necessary. When running my best I could only do 6.
