What do you think is the hardest track event to run? And why?
I think it's the 800 because it's mentally tough after the first lap. Also, it's almost like your sprinting two laps. At least it feels like you are.

800m, 400h and steeplechase come to mind.
If you are a real 800 runner it is actually pretty fun. The 5000 sucks hog balls. The barrier events are a bit freaky. I'd say a tossup steeple/5K.
Pretty much any event other than the 100 and 200 (doesn't mean they're not hard, they just don't hurt as much) if you haven't prepared for it well.
Like, if you don't have a good aerobic base, the 5000 is the most awful thing ever...
Discus and Hammer, Shot Put, I've never seen any one run them.
Hence why it is included in the 'field' events, not the track events.
0/10.
400m Hurdles. High stepping death march to the finish off the last turn.
Oh, and as if you need proof, ask Lopez Lomong about how hard the 5000 is to get right!
I would agree with trollist and stay: 400mH,800,and steeple
IH, 400m, and 800m (in some varying order)
theres nothing hard about track its just one foot in front of the other
I'd say the 1500 at the end of the decathlon. Come on, you're just pretty dead before that event, and now you still need to run almost four laps before you're done?
Whichever event you are not built for. I have no speed and can't jump so the 110 hurdles would suck for me. The 400 and 800 are hard but I could finish them. I would probably never see the finish line in a hurdle race.
Most sprinters might say the 5K or 10K.
10000. It is the longest, so it is obviously the hardest.

Tell that to Moses Mosop. 1:26:47 WR for 30,000 at The Pre Classic last year.
Anchor leg of the distance medley when you get the stick in the lead pack.
Your teammates have just run well to keep you right in the hunt. Now, you have to run the mile (or 1600 now, it was the mile in the old days) and you don't know what guy is coming up behind having a great anchor leg. Your teammates are yelling at you from the infield, the coach in the stands is hollering, and the strategy is mind bending.
but wait, there's more! wrote:

Sure, that's harder than the 10000. I was just thinking of regularly run events. Whatever is longest is hardest (feel free to make a dirty joke).
I was gonna go with 400H, but on further reflection I'll go with the high hurdles. Most people could get over the intermediate hurdles somehow; the highs, esp. for guys, are a different proposition. The possibility of doing yourself real damage is always there.
I agree with 800, 400H or 3000SC. I personally believe the Steeple is the hardes.
Anything the has hurdles or barriers would be death to me.
All distances are equally hard but the most painful would have to be the 800. That's the only event if I am having a bad day that I spend the last 100 meters totally tied up.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
