12 K pace/How hard is bay to breakers/predictions 5/7/2012 3:57PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I recently ran 16:46 on a windy day in Carlsbad, and I am running Bay 2 Breakers next Sunday. Runworks calculator gives me 5:35 pace for 10k, and 5:45 pace for ten miles. I am wondering if anyone has advice on 12k pace vs. 10k/10 mile stuff. I also don't know how hard the course is so if you have input that would be great. Mileage has been good, but took time off of workouts after Carlsbad until Thurs of last week.
Any advice would be appreciated.

It's easy to get a bit carried away the first three miles or so of B2B, as it's flat and there's a pretty big adrenaline rush when you hear the roar of all the insane masses behind you as the race gets underway. Then there's a substantial hill around 3 miles that can issue alot of pain to those that might have been overcome by the frenzy. The remainder of the race is rolling - though an overall decline over the last 3-4 miles to the finish.

My recommendation would be to go out a little conservative until you crest the major hill around 3 miles, then settle into a good 10-esque rhythm for the remainder of the race.
