Is this any good? I want to win a 5k in my area. What other type of training should I do to get fast (aside from all out treadmill miles?

I don't understand why I'm not being taken seriously. I just want to know what to do next. Like, should I try these new minimal shoes? My friend's girlfriend said something about them being all the rage. I want to get my time down to a 5:39 or so. Maybe a 5:38. Any SERIOUS ideas?

Serious idea - set the treadmill to go a little faster next time. In fact, set it at 5:39 pace and see what happens. Good luck.

Congratulations, you are faster than professional runner Alan Webb.

It seems you would be hard pressed to break 20 minutes, that's a slow win even for an area that isn't big in running

The problem is, there is an inherent delay when you start the treadmill as it builds up to the set pace. I've done some experimenting with this and I'm not sure it's possible to get to a 5:39 on a treadmill. Actually I'm pretty sure it's impossible. So what?

To do that you should probably start working on your leg speed velocity.

That's a good idea, thanks man. And CJ, I've experienced the same treadmill issue you're talking about. Very frustrating.

5:39 or so includes 5:38. This is why nobody takes you seriously. 10*200m full speed and hard tempos (94% of race pace 2/3 of race distance 3*week)

Just give it a minute to warm up to full speed, then jump on and run.

What are you talking about? You're saying it's impossible to run a 5:39 on a treadmill?

Yes. There simply is no disputing that fact. Do you have evidence against this?
Well, for one...

You missed a key element. When running under a 7 min. pace, always set the incline for 1% to take into account wind resistance.

I think you have a chance if they run the 5K on the treadmill....

They have treadmills that go over 10mph, no?
