I'm a young male runner of pretty slender build (5'9 120 lbs.) with a moderate heel strike. For some reason whenever I run with track spikes on a track I pound A LOT. In races, my coaches and teammates can hear my feet pounding and it's very noticeable to me too. I have no idea why this happens with only track spikes. In trainers I'm relatively quiet unless I'm getting fatigued (i.e. long run or tempo). Any advice/help/suggestions? I've worn Nike Victories and I currently wear Saucony Endorphin LD3's. I also have a very high arch. |

The spikes probably have a much lower heel than your trainers, altering how your foot strikes in them. If I were you I wouldn't worry about how loud your foot strike is. There is NOTHING wrong with having a loud foot strike. So basically don't change anything, what you are doing is completely fine. |
