Have any of you idiots ever been in a race that goes out slow? When it happens every single guy in the field knows that the first guy to take it is gonna get hosed in the last laps. No one wants to be that guy. Even though this is much slower than normal the same rules still apply. Anyways once you realize you've gone out so slow that you have no chance at a good time, you might as well chill with the pack until the end. |

In a race this slow, 18mins for the first 5k might feel easy, but when the pace is changed to 3.00/km-pace it hurts like hell - regardless of you're are a 29 runner or not. |

"Going out in much slower than what a high school girl can average for a freaking half marathon isn't tactical, it's straight up stupid and quite honestly embarassing." This. |

Why? You are making a bold statement with out much justification. So if you where in the race would you have won. If so how would you have responded to the slow opening pace? |

The idea that anyone who took the lead and pushed the pace for a few laps would have then been stuck there for the next four miles is ridiculous. It's not complicated: go to the front of the pack and lay down a couple of 75s. When you don't want to lead any more, swing out to lane 3 and start jogging. Someone else will take the lead and you can tuck in. Maybe the pace will slow again, but maybe not-- and you may have gotten a couple of people to fall off the back with your surge. |

You goobers would probably prefer pacermakers in the Olympic final. I want to see more races like this. |

I was at the meet on Friday night. The race was just one of those tactical affairs and nobody would take the pace. It was 77 degrees and 74% humidity at 10PM. It did not seem that humid to me because I have been living here for the last two years and it had been much more humid the last week, but IMO that is very high humidity for the rest of the country at this time of year. I had the last 400 in 56.xx. I thought someone might try and go from further out but they all pretty much waited until the last 600 or so. |

So many of you miss the point. Tactical races are awesome, I agree with you. More people are together and the paces at the end are fast and it is very exciting. The problem is how god awful slow this race was run at the start. Over a 6 minute mile in a major division 1 conference meet is simply pathetic. If they went through the first mile in 9:00 you'd be ok with it? As I said before, for runners of this caliber taking into account it might have been warmer than they are used to and it's a conference championship where people are doubling 31:00 is fine. I'd see that result and say "Ok, tactical. Understandable, I bet the finish was exciting". I see this result and say "Did all of the runners have their penises replaced with vaginas?" |

Has anyone found a video of the race? |

Many of you are collegiate runners. Surely one of you knows at least one of the guys who ran in this race. Please let him know we want to hear his side of the story. Then we can clear this matter up once and for all and move on with our lives. |

No you would be the person who would be tired the most by your surge. The people who respond to a surge are like a line cars on the interstate in traffic. the farther back you go the less people really move to cover it. You would have just tired yourself out in this situation. I can't believe you guys don't get this. You say you understand tactical races, but then you say the pace has to be at least so fast. I think the fact that an 18 min 5k is a pace you all could run is holding you up. As someone else said. The difference between 5:20s and 6:00 pace is nothing for these guys. It is all slower than their tempo pace. I know dennin and lumbar are doing 8 mile tempos that average out to 5:15 pace. Since this race was never about a pr, since a lot of these guys have their standard, i'll say it for the 100th time, it doesnt make a difference whether it is a 5:10 jog or a 6 min jog. |
