Do you really want to live until you 95-100 and you are pooping your pants in a wheel chair, not able to do things by yourself, and barely knows what is going on around you? |

Would you prefer to be 75 when this happens? Can't lay my hands on it but there was a similar study published a few years ago that showed generally better health outcomes and higher quality of life for the running vs non-running group. |

"You should aim to feel a little breathless, but not very breathless" I'll keep that in mind during my race tomorrow :/ |

I know, why waste your time when you could be sitting in front of some of the great reality tv programming that is currently making the entertainment industry the envy of the world. |

The same guy came out with a study saying intensity is most important last year. WHICH IS IT, GUY? |

The statement by itself is meaningless. What OTHER activities are taken up by non-runners (joggers) that runners don't do? Smoking? Unhealthy eating? Drinking frequently to excess? Runners TYPICALLY do not smoke or use tobacco at all. TYPICALLY eat healthier than non runners. TYPICALLY don't drink a ton. Runners take care of themselves in a lot of ways other than just the running itself. I'm all for exercise and DO believe it lengthens your life, but to simply pick out that activity and say it adds 6 years is bogus. |

So, if runners typically avoid those other activities because they don't fit with running, then running is a potent source of avoiding those unhealthy activities. Hence, even if they were part of the reason for the improved longevity, advising running would bring them with it. I saw a very large American study years back that said that the benefits get progressively greater for the higher quantity of running, all the way up to over 100 mpw. |
