Anyone know of any races this summer where a 14min 5k/29 min 10k guy could pick up some nice cash. Assuming relatively fast courses, I could probably run these road times: 23:40 road 8k 30:00 10k 65:30 half Any races this summer where I could maybe pick up $1000. I'm just looking for a vacation somewhere within the US that I would be able to pay for with my race winnings. Thanks in advance. |

Can anyone help a poor recent college grad pay for a vacation? Thanks. |

Central FL has a lot of races. The usual suspects around my area recently did 32:09 and 33:18 10K and usually do 16:xx 5K. |

I just looked over a bunch of "races" and none of these jokers appear to be offering prize money. Sorry. |

There are a lot of races in New England during the summer. The problem is, to make ~$1000, you'd need to either race a bunch (5-10) small races, which you could probably win fairly easily, or try for a big race like falmouth, beach to beacon, etc that pay out a lot more but get some VERY fast guys. You might be able to snag a top 10 spot at one of those, but more likely you'd be out of the money. Here is a good competitive race with $100 first prize: http://www.rotarybedfordnh.com/divisions.html Also, New Blanace Twilight meets (outdoor track) offers prize money for some of their bigger events (but you have to hit a certain time to qualify). I think there is a 10k in late May. http://www.nbbtwilight.com/ |

I was going to say New England as well. I made a couple grand last summer and I'm about a minute slower than the OP. Market Square Day 10K in Portsmouth, NH is $500 and I won that in 31:40 last year. Yankee Homecoming 10 Miler is either $500 or $1000 and usually around 51 minutes. Plus tons of $100-$200 5K races. Cinga 5K in Manchester is really good and there will be a few guys from NY that come up to run close to 14 minutes on a very fast course. Plus there are some great trails and lakes to train near. |
