Haile Gebrselassie Book? 4/30/2012 8:19AM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
My distance-running son is about to turn 12, and he is recently impressed with Haile Gebrselassie (he's still a young kid after all so he's just getting into who the best runners are). Looking for a birthday suggestion for his grandparents to get him.

My question is this...any recommendation for a book or anything else about him? I've read some reviews of "The Greatest: the Haile Gebrselassie Story" and they are mixed. Get it anyway? Get something else?

Thanks!

I actually bought it maybe a month ago. It is really awesome and I highly recommend it. although it chronicles a lot of his exploits politically and back in his homeland, the accounts of his running are second to none. the race flashbacks, numerous records set, all of his world and olympic races and flashes of some ridiculous workouts are simply magnificent. for a younger runner too he talks a lot about the work needed to do to become good, the attitude, and his mindset in some very low times along with the highs. i really recommend it. i thought the same thing about the reviews but i was stuck on this one until i finished it. get it!

Thanks for the review. I do appreciate it. I will send his grandparents a link to the book today.
