Half marathon race tactics-negative splits or not 4/29/2012 11:06PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
Ran a 1/2 today. La Jolla, CA. Pretty tough course as the first 6-7 mi feel like a steady climb with a .07 mi STEEP hill at mile 5.5.

I went out at target avg race pace and was kind of tired by mile 7 where the course flattens out(after doing the steep hill mile at 1.5min slower than pace). I ended up running 20-30 sec/per mile slower than my goal pace overall.

I think I was partially in denial on how this course was. But would I have most likely benefited running 30 sec/mi slower than goal pace in the beginning?

Since not a flat course, maybe negatives splits was something I should have concentrated on?

Wondering how most approach half marathon racing in general with regards to pacing?
