Emmanuel Bor won in a sprint, 18:48, three other guys in 18:49, wet roads, breezy, slight rain. Slow times, but had to be a fun finish to watch, plus another guy in 18:52. Jane Kibii on the winning end for women in 21:00, her 4th year in a row to win, no one has ever done that in the 24 years of the race, and this was her slowest year. Talk about consistent! |

If 18:48 is considered slow then I think I'll just give up. Maybe on a good day I could win the women's race. |

In defense of the race, it also has a handful of 90 degree turns, three short hills/rises, and drops by about 7 meters per Km, so fast but does depend on wind and rain, too, not just all downhill. This year it was run in a slight rain, but with heavy rains leading up to the last minute, so warm-ups were not the best (and it was about 50 degrees at the start), and a slight swirling breeze. Given the 5 Kenyans fighting for 4 money spots were coming from different parts of the country, I suspect they played some "cat and mouse" with each other. By the way, the course record is still the U.S.'s Ryan Wilson, a 17:27. That was a fast day, only about a dozen or so guys have ever gone under 18. We were very lucky that the rain and lightning stopped so that we had the race, and it was a fairly nice time during it. |
