I am in the South Bay (Palo Alto/Sunnyvale) for a short period of time and have heard that there are some spicy restaurants around here. I love spicy food... what are some of the best places to go?
Amber India in Mountainview is a great indian restaurant.
Junoon in Palo Alto is also good.
They are also lots and lots of much cheaper indian restaurants in Sunnyvale area.
check out the restaurant reviews in the local paper
and yelp is pretty widely used around here
Welcome to the Bay Area. Any Indian/Korean/Chinese restaurant has good spicy food - there are hundreds, if not thousands of these, not so much in yuppie Palo Alto, but south, in Mountain View/Sunnyvale/Santa Clara, where the ethnic people live.
Amber and Junoon are yuppie high end places. Good food, but overpriced. Really catering to a white crowd. If you want to eat Indian where the Indians eat - best choice is Madura in Sunnyvale. (Not for the ambience.)
Another favorite (Cambodian) is Chez Sovan at 923 Oakland Road in San Jose. The neighborhood is a little ghetto, but the food is excellent and unique. Try the catfish amok. (Lunch only.)
With Korean and Chinese and Vietnamese - really, you can't go wrong around here - as long as you are SOUTH of Palo Alto. Any place on Castro Street in downtown Mountain View. Chowhound has better (more informed) reviews than Yelp, esp. for ethnic restaurants.
Ok, I'll be specific: for Korean go to Jang Su Jang in Santa Clara, or to Palace BBQ if you want meat.
All these places are better to go with a small group, so you can try multiple dishes.
