Some agree that a good break of one week off after 6-12 weeks could be most helpful and re- charge the battery. Thoughts or experiences? TIA

That "some" would be very few. If you feel like you need a FULL WEEK of rest after only 3 months of training then you're doing something wrong. Try backing off the miles or intensity a bit and letting your body recover while staying consistent.
