I've just watched the worst movie ever... 4/27/2012 3:24PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I had a particularly crappy day yesterday so I ordered sushi and decided to watch TV. Victory! I found a movie called 88 Minutes with Al Pacino, directed by Jon Avnet: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411061/

I don't recall ever seeing something that BAD...! The acting is abysmal, especially Alicia Witt. She uses the same expression of shock in every scene, and just stands there, not doing anything with her body.

And Al Pacino is a hoot! Looking 100 years old, with an explosion of black/blue hair, like an old lady.

The dialogue is abysmal, the editing choppy, and the directing cliché. I also loved the costume design--everybody is badly dressed with oversized jackets. Awesome! I felt in good spirits after watching that excellent bad movie. Much better than a comedy to put you in a good mood.

Any other good bad-movies to recommend?

I thought the movie 'Drive' was about as bad as a movie could get. Ryan Gosling has no acting skills and does not pass as a tough guy at all. I watched the entire movie, thinking that at any moment, it would get interesting. It never did.

Really? I loved Drive. I found the shift in Gosling's character powerful and unexpected.

It can't be worse than "Manos: The Hands of Fate"? Now, THAT's a bad movie.

The remake of "Night of the Demons" is horrendous as well.

I agree. Drive was pretty good. Gosling's acting was good. It was understated. He didn't jump of the screen or anything. But that wasn't the idea. He's not a high energy actor. But that doesn't mean he can't act. Ever seen Lars And The Real Girl?

Maybe I should check it out. Would you say it's comparable to Troll 2?

"88 Minutes" is indeed terrible. So is another Pacino movie called "Simone." A lot of "late period" Pacino is pretty dreadful.
I am not really much of a believer in the "so bad it's good" theory of movies. I'd rather just see something that's good.
The worst movies I've seen include "Monster-in-Law," "RV," and "Running With Scissors." The author of the book the last one is based on insists it's all true. I don't really care if it's true or not. There's no reason to inflict it on the rest of us.

"Simone"..wow, that movie was absolute garbage.

"Eurotrip" was another mindblowingly bad one

IKLR, I haven't seen Lars And The Real Girl -- will add it to my list (as a true good movie, I believe?).

A friend of mine used to have parties at his home that involved watching "turkeys" together. But I prefer watching a bad movie alone. That's much more enjoyable that way.

Thanks, Dean!
Gosh, I love the lady Diana's mention, the 200 phone calls, Al Pacino driving the cab then asking the cab driver to leave him alone for a private conversation, bwaahaha. What a gem.

+1

I anticipated it to be really good, but I did not understand the point of it...

Yup, Drive just didn't do anything for me, yet I saw all these great reviews for it.

It seemed like Simone was filmed in three days in a Hollywood parking lot. Pacino must have needed some spending money.

I think Manos isn't horrible, you just have to be in the correct frame of mind. MST3000 does an excellent critique of that movie.

The worst movie of all time is A Walk in the Clouds, with no-talent Keenu Reeves. Man, that guy is a monotone nothing.

Yeah I can of have a hunch that The Three Stooges could be really bad. I wasn't rushing out to see that one.

The worst movie I ever seen in the theater was "Little Fockers". Even my mom hated that one and she loves just about any comedy. My girlfriend liked it. She went to see the new Zach Ephron movie "The Lucky One" and said it was "excellent" I don't usually base what I see on reviews. I don't always agree with good reviews. But bad reviews are always a good sign not to bother.
