I'd like to run a half two weeks fromSaturday, but don't want to spend the entry fee money if I'm not going to be competitive. I'm looking for a good predictor workout to assess my fitness. Up until about five weeks ago, I was averaging less than 50 miles a week. I've averaged 75 for the last four. I've not done any speed work, but have done a few 47 min 8 milers and ran 21 miles of a marathon at 6 min pace. This all in the last eight weeks. Any ideas? |

8 mile TT is my standard HM predictor. TT pace=HM race pace. |

My favorite half marathon prep workout is 3*2 miles with 2 min jog recoveries. It's been a good predictor for my half marathon pace. |

For me as I'm approaching the end of a training cycle my 8-mile tempo pace = my 13.1-mile race pace. |

I should clarify: I always end up running that 8 miler more like a time trial than a run of the mill tempo. So I would agree with previous poster. I generally do this 2 weeks prior and then taper. |

[/quote] Yes, at half marathon pace. Obviously easier than the 8 mile time trial but I never redline it like you might in a TT. |
