I was able to handily do twenty five in a row at the beginning do you think it is possible to get too 100 push-ups by the end of the seven weeks? also will it help lower my times? |

I tried it once. I was able to do just over 40 push-ups on the initial test before starting the program. The first few weeks are ridiculously easy, but as it progresses I found it became incredibly difficult. I had to repeat a week once and then just gave up because it got impossible. You can give it a try, but you'd probably be better off creating your own workouts. |

Almost no one can do 100 pushups. I do 400+ pushups per day and achieve muscle failure around 65 if I go for a max. |

It's a seven week program, but you will almost certainly have to repeat some weeks. I'm now nearing the end of week four on the hardest level. |

Middle aged guy here with great aerobic fitness. Never could complete week 5. Most consecutive I could ever do was 50. And I was adding extra sets (as many as 8) beyond what was stipulated at hundredpushups.com. It's encouraging to read that someone who does 400/day can only max about 65 consecutive. Maybe I'm doing ok. I'm thinking it might be easier for youngsters to do than middle aged farts even if we're in good aerobic shape. I'm still trying though. |

After week one, I report that the first day kinda sucked but other than that it was actually easy. if the program gets as hard as claimed I feel like I'll take a rest after the seven weeks, depending on how far I get and then start a new cycle. |

When I was getting ready for my freshman year of college, I took push ups way too seriously. I was doing 4 sets of 50 in the middle of a workout that included all kinds of body weight exercises including side to side push ups and diamond push ups and a few other push up type exercises. It didn't take long before 50 was a breeze. I think if my goal was to do 100 straight, I could have done it back then with out any other specific training. I was a middle pack runner in college, but when it came time to do core work, I was #1, which meant didily squat. If you are a serious runner, being able to do 100 push ups is worthless. Yes, do some push ups, like 3 sets of 25-35, but any more than that isn't going to contribute to your long distance running ability. If you care more about being good at push ups, go for it. You'll probably be able to do it. |

This site was created to make money selling crap online, it isn't necessarily good advice for gaing upper body strength. That said, push-ups are great exercise so any way that you do them should help quite a bit. Why not just treat them sort of like running and build up slowly over time...if you start out doing 25 push ups a day after each run and then add on like 5 or so per week, you will likely see some nice gains. |

as a former college distance runner 165lbs turned body builder 210lbs now a cross-fit guy (level 1 certified) 185lbs, It's a hard game trying to have good upper body strength with distance running. I can say that I've always been able to do more push-ups at a lighter weight. even when I was reping 215lbs 14x I could only do 45 straight. I'm doing around 75 straight now. just keep doing pushups often as you would run. I've found that dropping every 5-10 min of running and pumping out as many as I can has helped not only my pushups but my run. Another important thing to remember is that you must work the opposite muscles as well. If your back is under developed your body will recognize this and prevent your chest from growing farther after a certain point. Check out "barstarzz" they have a few youtube videos. They are amazing. |
