Some more equal than others: Boy banned from girls field hockey team for being too good. 4/26/2012 2:26PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
So we always hear about girl needing to be allowed to play boys sports because after all, we are all equal.

Now, a boy plays a women's sport, and is banned for being good at it.

That makes sense.

Thoughts?

We would do the same thing to Africans if we could.

Actually, I think girls are allowed to play boys sports when a sport isn't offered for girls, and I guess vice versa with field hockey, not because "we are all equal".

In general, however, sports aren't co-ed because the best boys are consistently better (taller, faster, stronger, etc) than the best girls, at least after puberty.

Junior athletes can run in senior competitions. Senior athletes cannot run in junior competitions. Why do you think this is, and what are the parallels to this situation?

Women sometimes play in PGS events, but I've never seen a man play in the LPGA.

It's not a woman's sport. Field Hockey is popular with men in many other countries, namely Ireland. This kid is from Ireland.

If you moved to Italy and only girls ran, would you stop running? Probably not.

That being said, field cockey sucks cocks.

To be honest, field hockey is not that popular in Ireland. They play Shinty and Gaelic Football.

But if there is no men's field hockey team, he should have the right to play on the women's team. That is the argument for women to play on men's teams in similar situations. This IS an equality issue, and a reverse title ix issue in a way.

No, you are wrong. All Irish men like Field Hockey and Guinness beer and redheaded, pasty women. And cucumbers and potatoes and lamb pies.

During the winter (I'm too lazy to look it up) there was a similar hoorah--maybe in Massachusetts?--regarding boys on girls' swim teams (when the school did not offer a separate boys' team).

Boys were advancing to the State finals in various events, thus keeping girls from having the opportunity. But Title IX mandates equal competitive opportunities (actually, that's a major simplification, but I won't go into it here), so the boys had to be allowed to swim.

Maybe someone will use Google to find that story..
