Ok so I haven't run in almost a month exactly because of hamstring tendinitis. That has mostly cleared up but now I've noticed that my shins feel weak and I am not sure why. It is mostly noticeable when I try to do one legged squats. Sometimes I can do them with no pain but other times, I can do them but it hurts a bit around my lower leg, on the inner and outer area of my shin it seems. I am not sure if I just happened to develop shin splints while crosstraining and stuff or what this could possible be? I've only really done elliptical, biking, and i've aquajogged a bit (about 5 times or so). When I push down on that area of my leg, I can't find any specific area of pain and I am just not sure what this could be. Also, when i'm walking, my lower leg doesn't really "hurt" per se, it just feels a bit weird. If anyone has any idea what's going on, any help would be much appreciated. In another situation, I would think I could have a stress fracture or something, but that seems pretty unlikely considering my training lately. |

Also to clarify, the hamstring tendinitis was on the medial side of my leg, a few inches below my knee. I also had some pes anserinus issues that are also just clearing up now (but I still have the bump). |

I had a lot of shin fatigue for a few years. Compression socks helped and getting rid of heel lift in my shoes helped, too. |

Ok I will definitely look into that. Maybe compression socks are a good idea. Would it be good just to buy a sleeve to wear when I'm not running or for the running itself? I am just not sure what to think of this since I haven't run at all in a month because of my injuries. |

I would wear the socks/sleeves while running, for sure. See if that helps. |

Potentially some type of fascia-related injury, or compartment syndrome like injury, that becomes inflamed with physical activity, but only feels pressure or that "weird" feeling when not aggravated. Possibly the cross or elliptical training worked different lower leg muscles that are now responding differently to the pounding of a run. |

Oh, and by the way, if it is a fascia or compartment-like issue, DO NOT wear compression socks, since compression is the last thing you want. |

Hmm compartment issues could be possible too. What would remedy this/how would I know if it is this? I do have PT tomorrow which is for my tendinitis and stuff but maybe I could ask about this? I'm just really unsure about the cause since the crosstraining i've been doing really has been pretty light overall. |

Also if it helps, sometimes I do feel a tightness type of thing on my calf. I do try to roll it out once a day and i've been rolling a golfball under my foot which I heard can help shin splints but idk. |

Also to add more, it hurts a bit when I hop on one leg. I can do it, but it hurts in the area above and around my ankle. |

This should clear it up for you Shin Pain is a left wing, Irish republican political party in Ireland. The name is Irish for "ourselves" or "we ourselves", although it is frequently mistranslated as "ourselves alone". Originating in the Shin Pain organisation founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith, it took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party. Sinn Féin is led by Gerry Adams. Shin Pain is the only party in Ireland which has elected representatives in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The party has historically been associated with the Provisional IRA. |

Well you learn something new every day. But if we could return to my actual question.. |

While not quite your symptoms, I have been suffering from anterior tibialis. On the first go round, I was trying to get free of it by doing one leg squats, that only aggravated matters. This time around I am avoiding the squats and instead doing single leg presses (15x for three sets at 50-75 lbs). Avoiding the downward pressure while exercising the leg has helped immensely. The tibialis inflammation is gone, now just waiting on the runners knee to settle. |

Hmm thanks. I will definitely try the one leg presses today and see how they feel. |

Similar thing happens to me sometimes when I've been off running for a little while. Gently Doing working the shin muscles a little bit seems to help - stuff like toe raises, scrunching up a towel with your toes, etc. - and also also making sure your calves stay nice and loose. |
