The Kenyan Trials are in June. If you don't already have the time you can't run then so that removes the top Kenyan guys. This usually is a low-mid 27 minute race. Thus it isn't fast enough to attract most of the top East African guys. This race usually gets 2nd tier Africans and top tier everyone else. That's because the top tier everywhere else usually is in the 27 minute range which this race usually is. This year on the American side the top tier doesn't have to run it as they minus Ritz already have qualifiers. If you want to run 27:10-27:45 this is a great race. A 26:40 race in Europe doesn't help you. On the other hand, if you want to run 26 something you'll usually pass on this race. Most of the "A" level top Africans are in that group. So there is a reason all the top non-Africans run this and the top Africans pass. I'd love to see this race get some money and the top Africans as the weather is so great in Stanford. Instead this is the Super Bowl of 10k for everyone else. |

people are throwing out guesses of 27:30 for collegiates i dont think they understand derricks pb of 13:18 only equates to 27:59. if any college athletes run under 27:45 i will be very very impressed as that equates to 13:12 |

13:18 = 27:59??? The race is Sunday night. |

I mean, 13:18 is 39sec slower than 5k WR, wouldn't you think it equates to 80-90sec slower for 10k? Ie 27:30s anyway. |

Sorry 41sec not 39sec. |

They just happen to run in a great period. Both are ranked all time top 10 NCAA in the 3,000m and 5,000m, which makes them both "of the best...". Not "the" best, but pretty close, since both Levins and Derrick beat "the" best (Lawi)... |

McMilan Running Calculator says: 13:18 = 27:38 http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/index.php/site/calculator Not exactly the best predictor, but puts ya in the ball park... I hope everyone runs faster than that though. |

Everyone keeps saying that there is no chance of anyone going sub 27 minutes, however lets look at the facts. Sam Chelalga ran 27:08 (or something very close to that) two years ago at this meet, surely he has an opportunity to break 27 minutes now that he has been training as a pro for close to a year. Chris Solinsky broke 27 in his 10k debut here two years ago. Although his 5k PR at that time was considerably faster then Cam Levins (under 13:10 to under 13:20), Cam Levins (150 mpw) run higher milage then Chris (130) and that leads me to believe that he will be even better at the 10k then he is at the 5k. I believe, This is Cam's 10k debut. The Japanese are probably doped out of there minds. Chris Derrick, over the past year now has changed into a sick runner, to a winner. Look has his progression in his senior year... -goes out slower in XC and closes for second -at milerose goes out conservatively, gets the A standard -NCAAs goes out and pushes to the lead, only to lose twice to Lalang -at Stanford, beats a ton of colleges best 1500s and a few pros! He has become a winner, and i wouldn't be surprised if he pulled a Chris solinsky, in the last 1600 or so... if the pace is fast, he could break 27.... i think |

Anyone care to comment on the Canadian TRIO |
| Here is the way it is |

Yeah, it's just you. Cam has no chance to even sniff sub 27. Same with Derrick. Chelanga could potentially but only if he's got a couple of pace setters to pull him through at least 7000 at that pace. |
