Today is the IAU 100k World Championship. The male winner (Italy) won in 6:23:22. The female winner (USA) won in 7:34:09. This is a road ultra so no major hills to climb. These times aren't fast, but you have to consider that they are running 62.2 miles so they have to pace themselves. Not sure why the mens winner beat the womens winner by an hour. Do you guys consider this an elite race? I say these guys are tough runners, I wouldn't want to run that far. |

One of the guys on the winning Italian team, Alberico Di Cecco, is a 2:08 marathoner who was busted for EPO a few years ago. |

That's about 6:10/mile for 62 miles. I'm sure somebody will come here and say that's not impressive. That person is a troll or a complete idiot, or both. |

How is the team score calculated? For men US (5,7,8,10,22) would beat Italy (1,3,16,24,25) if naive 5-man XC scoring were used (so I guess it isn't). Good running by both teams. Also, did Yiannis Kouros actually run? |

It was reported that 50 year old Meghan Arbogast was leading at 96k, and then she dropped back and ended up finishing 4th. Her time: 7:51:10, which is 7:35 pace. She beat her old age group world record at 100k by 9 minutes. Amy Sproston of the USA won in 7:34:08. |

It doesn't count unless it was on concrete. |

Pretty sure it counts then.

Guys? Women got team gold. Men got team silver. Women, 1st overall, Amy Sproston, Portland, Oregong. 4th overall, Meghan Arbogast, lowered her current 50+ 100k record, Pam Smith, 5th... all from Oregon. Since the men only got the silver, not worth mentioning names and such. Of course it isn't elite. It is a world championship put on by the governing body of ultramarathons, records are accepted my USATF and IAAF, and stuff like that, but they just all run so slow compared to the average letsrun member (says so in the OP, "These times arent' fast...obviously the voice of experience and knowledge). |

I'm amazed that one of the fastest 100km runners of all-time is a former World 50km Racewalk stud, Aleksey Volgin of Russia. Dude rolled 6:20:44 in Winschoten and also went 3:44:45 in Racewalk... shows you Americans have a lot of room for improvement in this esoteric event. |
