Worku, Lelissa and Kirui did not run a smart race.

I understand the point but Kirui was trying to win the race. So I don't think it was that dumb a race. Sometimes it doesn't work out. He didn't want to run 2:05. He wanted to win.

If Kipsang blew up you'd say the same for him.

I think one thing these guys could learn is from Khannouchi. If someone blasts it at halfway you don't have to go crazy with them.

However, Kirui didn't go with them right away he bided his time in closing the gap.

The pace absolutely destroyed Kirui and Lilesa at the end.

They went for the win and paid for it.

The Kenyan Olympic team will be interesting.

I'd go with Kipsang, Kirui and Mutai if I was picking it.

Wejo,

I am with yiu on this one.
I was making a cup of tea in the kitchen and this is the team I came up with.

1. Wilson Kipsang
2. Abel Kirui
3. Geoffrey Mutai

Women:
1. Mary Keitany (what a race!)
2. Ednah Kiplagat
3. Priscah Jeptoo or Florence Kiplagat.

It will be interesting who the third person will be because we also have Sharon Cherop.

Either way, we'll be well represented with the women.

The men's team is a formidable one. For the women, Florence woould come before Jeptoo. She just seemed to have a "bad" day today maybe because of her 66 minute half marathon last month, otherwise she is consistently a sub 2:20 runner and is the only one who could almost challenge Keitany for the win. Jeptoo had a spectacular race and so did Edna who amazed me, going with Keitany at 5:07 pace for sometime. She is a true fighter and we are sure she will improve.

5'9" 134 lbs D-cup implants, 39 years old not the typical 2:55 marathoner profile

Good lord is such a woman possible? (1:21 half PB this year too!)

If those are implants whoever put 'em in should get a Nobel.

He's not 40 yet. But it was an age 39 record by a wide margin:

I pointed out before on this forum that Kirui never does well in a spring Marathon. The best he has ever attained is a 3rd place in Rotterdam afew years ago.Any other spirng marathon has been poor by his standards. However in Autumn he is in supreme form hence why he should be in the team in addition to his 2 world championship gold medal performances. I would pick:-

Kipsang
Kirui
G. Mutai
Wesley Korir as alternate instead of Lel because lel too injury prone.

Unbelievable finish from Keitany - for splits on last 2.2km, Kipsang nearly got chicked - Kipsang 6.46, Keitany 6.51.

As I said before:

Makau
Kipsang
Abel Kirui

Makau is more than a minute faster than G. Mutai.

... As for Martin LEl, I think he is a phenomenon athlete. He was below the radar today and very few people thought of him coming through in the top five. But here he collects the silver again. He is the true Mr. London. Three golds, three silver and I think one bronze in London. I think London should come up with a marathon or half marathon race named after him.
True this. Boston had Billy and London has Lel.

I hope you´re joking. Gharib ran in the 40-44 year division. He will be forty later this year, so it was a masters WR.
