Not a particularly fantastic time from Fernandez, but on the bright side, it appears as though this was another horrid tactical race considering runners 2-4 all finished within .03 of each other, and the first place runner was only about .2 seconds ahead.
So perhaps Fernandez still has a bit of speed left in him to make a miracle happen later this year
It's just nice to see him racing again.
wow that really sucks
I think it's extremely encouraging.

We need to get GF and Webb in a race together.
They will... in Eugene!
Coming off an injury and already racing. This is why his career at OSU as been so lackluster.
It's good he hasn't given up and still trying.
The LetsRun world is slowly losing its infatuation with GF. Only 9 replies to a GF race after a long layoff is proof enough. I still think he is full of talent if someone can learn how to get him to train in a way that can keep him healthy.

Seriously. Wasn't there an article just a few days ago where Smith said he was just getting back to running? Was that old?
Was O'Hare pacing? Any reason why he DNF'd?
And the steady decline continues.
Season Bests:
2009: 3:39
2010: Redshirt
2011: 3:44
2012: 3:46
Yet another talented US distance runner that spends 30% of the time injured. A 3:46 1500 isn't even fast by 50 year old standards.

I'm 50 years old and would be delighted to run 3:46
I believe he means 50 years ago (1962) 3:46 wouldn't be considered fast. He is right.
Fernandez's career has been a sad decline. At this point, it is clear OSU was a poor decision for running and Dave Smith can't handle talent at the level Fernandez has.
German is superbly talented and will run incredibly fast in the pro ranks once he leaves OSU and can take the time to rehab his injuries.

Is 2012 over? Or are you an f'tard?

Neither. But 3:46 is his season best for 2012 at this moment, and it's slower than his other season bests.
You know, what you know, And I know, what I believe. And I'm telling you this guy still has way, way more potential on tap. The real task is how to get German himself to access it without self-destructing into injury or apathy. Finding a balance between his raw ambition and what his body will allow him to endure is the key. When your playing with fire it's so damn easy to get burned, even if your attention is turned for just a second. If they can set achievable goals over the next few races without busting the bank, he may get there again yet!
It may be unlikely but does anyone think he might head over to Alberto's place after graduating. Seems his best bet is to be put on a 2 or 3 year plan and build up a few seasons of consistent training/racing. Get him to a point where 3:39/13:25 isn't a good day, but the new standard.
It feels like this is what he did with Galen. Any thoughts?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
