This race isn't getting enough attention in my opinion. You got US current top 100 guy Dix debuting and Mike Rodgers returning from drug suspension. Hearing that in just his 2nd week of practice Ryan Bailey is tearing it up after almost 6 months off with 2 ankle fractures but has looked as good or better than his training camp mates Dix, Ndure and Thompson. Look for Thompson to pop a strong 200 as well.

Also Dix, Ndure, Bailey and Thompson are entered in the 4x100. That line up could go 37 low!

I'm going with lane 8 as the darkhorse upset.

I am very hyped to see some of these guys. I expect Dix is going like 9.8 hi to open. He has to be at least wanting to run faster than Yohan's 9.90. Ndure has been training with Dix so I expect he will be like 9.9 hi or 10.0 low and Rodgers 10.1 ish as he hasn't raced in so long. Not expecting much from Bailey since I hear he has only practiced 2 weeks so he hasn't had time to do much speed work if any and same for technical work. Saw him race at UCLA last week on relay and he was not moving very well and looks super super heavy big like which makes sense being hurt.

The 4x1 could rock if those guys race, Bailey would be the slow leg at 9.88 for a PR with Dix and Ndure and Thompson all 9.9 or faster guys this team could put up something crazy. I am going with 37.37.

Bailey's 9.88 is a "Rieti 9.88", so it doesn't count.

And Dix won't run 9.8-high. IMHO he will be lucky to dip under 10, which he probably will, along with some others, but only just, somewhere between 9.95 and 10.00 is my guess. To open in under 10 is really something incredible.

It's too bad that Thompson isn't running the open 100 here. He showed indoors that he really needs to practice his new start under actual race conditions, and this seems the perfect opportunity.

I'm looking for big things from Thompson this year, I think that he is the one to watch out for, and that he could very well go a corrected 9.8-mid by the end of the season. His endurance in the 200 might shed some light on whether he will have what it takes in the 100. Ndure should crush him in the 200, though--and if he doesn't, then Thompson should run the open 200 in London.

Sprintgeezer you will look very silly with this statement about Bailey in a few weeks I suspect. No, he hasn't done anything since due to injuries but word out of John Smith's camp is that Bailey has been tearing things up since his return to practice 2 weeks ago. Bailey owned 2 other wins over Rodgers in 2010 besides Rieti and beat Thompson, Ndure, Frater, Lemaitre in Rieti straight up so the time to you might be suspect but his talent is not debatable. Everyone else there has backed it up or even improved since. Bailey has more up side than any of the cats he raced in Rieti. I hear he is anchoring the 4x1 at Mt SAC so you can see for yourself. My bet is he is the best of the bunch in John's camp come July 1. Lofty words with Dix in the mix I know but my sources tell me this kid is the real deal.

Dix takes it in 9.85 with a slight windy reading of 2.4. He looked very strong last 60. Could improve first 40 and be 9.7 low. Bodes well for him come August. Most impressive to me was Bailey jogging that anchor in the 4x1. I timed it in 8.8 and even if I'm off a bit the dude was striding it out and obviously not exerting himself. Probably playing it safe since he has done very little training. He's a monster. From what I have heard he hasn't done anything in training yet so with 2 months to train and learn from John Smith he will annihilate his 9.88 PR and we will have super hype going into London with Bailey and Dix vs. Bolt and Blake. Bring it you Jamaican bitch asses. US is back in the sprints.

Factt--

9.85 (+2.4) is a 9.96 corrected.

9.96

That is dipping under 10, just like I said he would.

Blake's 9.90 (+1.6) corrects to about a 9.98, which is about the same.

Dix did exactly what I guessed he would--ran between 9.95 and 10.00

Thank-you for providing me the opportunity to expound on this.

Dix's result is just about as good as Blake's, when you consider that Dix's was run under basically great conditions, and Blake's was run in the rain, you get a better appreciation of Blake's run.

Hard to tell exactly from this vid of the race:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlNlUf8SLL4

, but it looks like Dix has been working on emulating Powell's start. He's got it, almost exactly, and good for him. He still needs a bit of work on the very first step, on rising out of the blocks, but it looks really good...if he can get those first 1 or 2 steps correct, he will be even with everybody at 25m, which would be a triumph, and would mean that he would go an honest low 9.8x!

As it now stands, he is only 1m behind at 25m, rather than 2m behind as he has historically seemed to be.

VERRRRRRYYYY nice! IMHO low 9.8x puts him right in the mix, as it is a low 9.7x with good wind.

Again hard to tell from the vid, but it looked like he had the typical early-season rust and tightness in the latter part of the race, but the middle part of the race looked great, and the first part looked much improved. If he gets his finish in order, as he always does by the end of the season, we will see a 9.7x from Dix this season...I fully expect that we will.

Awesome, especially for the relay--the only question now will be where he goes on the relay, which I guess will depend on who else will be on the team.

And as for Rodgers, that idiot--whatever. He got waxed, Dix beat him by .12

As is typical of Rodgers, his run was between 10.05 and 10.10, which is his territory. By the end of the year he will get down to 10.00-10.05, and possibly just under 10.00.

If--IF--Rodgers can get down to an honest 9.9-low or 9.8-high, then we will have a serious 4x100 race on our hands, assuming that Gay will be in decent shape.

Rodgers and Thompson were disappointing in the 200m.

Consider that they would have gotten handily beaten by Wariner!

No real surprise--but no good surprises, either.

It looks like Ndure didn't run the 200m, too bad.

Did he run the relay?

Bailey had to do some Work from the look of his anchor he is in decent shape, are you really serious that he hasn't done anything if that was the case John Smith would probably not let him run, im very curious to see how he does in his opener hopefully john will correct his start ( perhaps he hasn't done any speedwork is that what you mean ?)
