I think a lot of this comes down to the way modern FM playlists work, overexposure of certain songs by certain artists, especially those 70s-90s classic rock bands. REO Speedwagon, growing up I thought they sucked. A few years ago I got their "Decade of Rock N Roll" release and was blown away by how much it rocks. But if you listen to oldies radio and you hear 'Keep On Lovin' You' and 'Can't Fight This Feeling' all the time and never hear 'Roll With The Changes' or the live version of 'Riding The Storm Out', you're going to think REO is lame.
Same thing with Journey, I want to hear 'Only The Young' and 'Be Good To Yourself' once in awhile, not just 'Open Arms' and 'Who's Crying Now'.
