College in Spain 1st year, then come back to America, then REDSHIRT? 4/16/2012 5:31PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
So I've decided that college is too dang expensive here. However, I would like to be a Spanish teacher so I am considering going to Spain for a year since college down there is sooooooo freaking cheap (probably no more than $4000) so I would obviously join a running club there.

What I want to know is would any college coach let me come back and redshirt the first year? I'm a guy who isn't fast and I don't want to post my times because people will call me a troll (ask me if you want them though.) Obviously I would want to be good so the off year will be essential. What do you all think?

Oye, if you go to Spain for a year of college your running career will officially be over. There's no way your running will survive the wine, women and song of Spain. If I were you I'd just concentrate on embelishing the PR's you currently have.

You can't just go to Spain; the credits won't transfer unless you set it up through some program. If you just do study abroad through your school you'll have to pay your school's tuition.

Are you a native spanish speaker and not a "fluent" speaker like everybody pretends to be? I'm assuming that you would teach English, since pretty much everybody there in Spain can teach Spanish.

By the way, if you're not Spanish or VERY familiar with the culture, the adjustment can take a while. Its not just the language but the culture. Good luck. If you worked you would just lose a year, to my understanding. You would just lose a year of salary here minus what you gained there.

If tuition is such a big deal, look for a cheaper school or go to a community college for two years. They are really cheap here.
