He just looks way too big in the upper body, and yes, really tight. Not smooth or efficient at all. I wish him well, but can't see him running world class times unless something changes dramatically.

I thought he looked really smooth and effortless in the 5000, like he could have gone a lot faster.

I had the same depressed feeling watching this that I had recently when I sat down to play poker in a sparsely-populated, smokey, small-town casino.

There's no reason not to be out competing wherever you can, but that just wasn't a winner's venue. Nobody there is going to be running in the Olympics, or the Diamond League, probably ever.

It was a workout bro. You save the fast running for big meets and the workouts for little meets.

It's why Webb did that 3000m last year with college people instead of doing the 2 mile in NYC when Lagat got the record. He had planned on doing the 2 mile there but then when he was injured and sick he realized he wasn't in the shape he wanted to be so he did the 3000m with college people instead because that was a race where the winning time would be slower and he could "race" with slower people instead of being left in the dust by someone faster when he isn't in good shape

When Webb is in better shape, he'll race with better people

Why is he so heavy?

What's his diet like?

Give me six months and I'd turn him into Skeletor. You would be able to count his muscle fibers. His veins would have veins.

He just looks so puffy, holding so much water.

Hes like Jared from Subway compares to El G in his prime.

Totally agree.

I'm from New England and I've seen guys like Jenkins and others run college meets for workouts so that isn't a big deal, but Alan looks really heavy and tight.

Carrot Top was funnier before he bulked up and Alan was faster before he bulked up.

He did look like he wasn't pushing things - Seems to me he is purposefully trying to run comfortably/smoothly at speed, to get him used to racing, to get his head screwed on right, and to work on tactics. Question is whether he has another gear that he is not using...

Totally agree.

Too upper body dominant. In the 1500 he carries his right arm way to low, it makes him run like a strong (slow)sprinter instead of an efficent middle distance guy with resources. He almost looked good at the halfway mark of th e5 k, but he looks like he thinks strength is his answer and he ends up using too much of that and not enough fluidity.

Like a high school kid who found the weightroom and can't let go.

I can see why he is doubling up. The coach is trying to flatten him out and get him running efficiently. Unfortunately he has tremendous capability, and these slow races don't do anything more than reinforce his bad habits.

He needs to drop weight, let his arms follow instead of lead, and get more action on the ground instead of lifting his knees. He's slightly out of sync in the power phase. He has so much and uses so little. Spends it all in the air.

I could fix him in 2 weeks in training. In a race it may take longer.

he ran a 3:46 mile the season this was taken. you idiots will never run a 3:46 1500. his upper body strength is NOT an issue.

Where is his coach? He should tell him to stop lifting weights, especially that heavy. I used to do that, and it adds some extra weight for you to carry around, and you become very tight. Web should try a new career as weight lifter.

I thought it was better for lapped runners to just stick with lane one.
