He didn't run Boston because he made the Olympic team a few months ago. |

So many things wrong with that... Ryan Hall has run 2 races since October and has another one in August. Adding in another marathon here and competing for the win would have been downright stupid, especially since he needs to focus on getting his speed back to where it was 4-5 years ago, not racing more marathons. |

Ryan Hall couldn't win the RIchmond marathon 1 mile of a faster pace and he would bonk as standard. |

Since Korir beat him soundly at Chicago, the safe bet would be that he'd still lose to him. |

Ryan Hall lost to Wesley Korir pretty handily in Chicago, by almost 2 minutes. I doubt he would've won even if he was in shape because 1) The heat gets to his head 2) He would've lost to Wesley 3) he is a pusssssy |

So brave of everyone here to bash an individual who, by all accounts, isn't a prick and will be representing our country in the Olympics. Hilarious that you guys are calling a sub-2:10 marathoner a pus**, a guy who would wipe the floor with you in any distance event. |

Don't equate the 2. Ron Clarke's focus was making money and setting records. When he came to the championships - of which there were fewer than today, he was usaully spent, or afraid to carry someone to a new world record. Until he redeemed himself in his latter years. I knew Ron Clarke. Ryan Hall is not in the same class as Ron Clarke. I hope he gets there, but so far he is not in the same building as the guy who held world records at the mile through to the 10 k. |

I had a dream last night that Ryan Hall was standing on the podium in second place. =( |

Ron Clarke was a greedy arrogant prick for those of who knew vs meeting him. Hall is not the same type of guy , maybe thats why his win record is bleak at best. Clarke was a good racer , Hall is learning. Both exceptional athletes in their own time. |

I admire Hall's running abilities, however he is not a killer instinct racer. He will not win a major marathon ever. He has and will run many excellent time trials and place high because he is fast, but when the racing gets intense, he is just not engaged. |

Indeed. Running smart in wars of attrition is how Meb gets his best places - the heat of Athens 2004 being the most applicable analog to this year's Boston. Meb quite likely would have won if he was in the one. |

Hall's half marathon AR was run in very uncomfortable weather.

I think the more interesting question is whether Hartmann might have beaten Hall. Imagine how much more attention he'd be getting today. He must be champing at the bit right now for a shot at the established top tier in the US. New York? Berlin? Tokyo? When will he get his chance? |
