Hall is a much better marathoner than Jason Hartmann who was only 2 or so minutes behind the winner. You have to think that Hall would have had a very good chance of winning today had he run it.

No. He would have choked.
Ryan Hall - the modern day Ron Clarke of long distance. Always hyped as the likely winner but falls through in the clutch.

He actually is incredibly consistent and routinely beats people with faster PRs than him.
DNF.. He doesn't like running in the heat.
The problem would be keeping himself to a reasonable pace the first half. Halls best chance at a major was at ny when Meb won. The marathon is a different game now. Barring horrible weather 2:08-2:09 crap now. Crazy.

What major race has he won?
He always seems to be the perennial runner up?
If he ran an effort similar to last year, he would have been up there. Let's not forget though that Korir beat him in Chicago.
Like another poster said: "Statistics don't lie."
Yes, he would have won.
he ran 2:12 in beijing in similar conditions going out slow.
i think it wouldn't have been a bad idea to have raced today and at least practiced winning, i've never really seen hall fade to a 17 minute 5k from 35-40k, so I think he had a good chance to take it today.

I'm not sure if last year's strategy would have bode so well for him this year. If he would have run like Hartmann he might very well have been able to steal it at the end.
Besides the Olympics, what other hot weather marathons has he run in?
We can hope for a brutal heat wave at London I guess. A medal is a medal no matter if its 60 or 95 degrees out.
I think he would have had a good shot at the win, even though Korir has beaten him in the marathon before. But he totally would have chased that clown in the first 5k.
Fact: Beijing was much closer to Hall's peak performance than now (59:43, 2:06:17).
Since Hall adopted God as his coach, he had the "aided" Boston race, and then has gotten slower from there.

Beijing peaked at 74 degrees and was on a relatively fast course.
No. Hall would have been going for the win from the start and would have run with the leaders from the gun and would have bonked, just like all the favorites did today. In fact, anybody who thought they had a chance to win if they ran with the leaders from the start today would not have won.

looked like 84 degrees to me. where is the source on that stat?
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/ZBAA/2008/8/24/DailyHistory.html?req_city=Beijing&req_state=BJ&req_statename=BeijingHes a whimp and was scared to race today. The bi*tch of it is even though i think he pus*ed out he would have won today or came in a very close second.
Heres what happened, after the last attempts at it, talking it up, and saying i will keep racing boston till i win, the 2:03 cracked him last year, and this year he put off boston because he was scared to come in today and get his butt kicked, well the funny thing is if he would have shown up today i really think he had a shot, and the best one he will ever get...
I don't think Hall runs well in heat. A better question is what Meb might have done under these conditions.
Would Wanjiru have won if he was still a live? Would both Mutai's have run better in the heat?
#1 rule of running/life: You must be present to win.
