You gotta love a guy with a college PR of 4:24 in the mile who sticks with it and has a great race on the big stage. Serious props to the man.

I don't think he broke 10 in high school and direct athletics says 30:28. So, it looks like he a blue collar runner that just keeps improving...he's the opposite of someone that didn't live up to his potential.

Yep, he never broke 10 in high school. He's been training his butt off for the past 6 years or so and improving every step of the way. He ran 30:28 his senior year, but he was running over 15:40 for 5k as a freshman. His results are the product of incredibly consistent and injury free training over the year.

I'm almost certain that he broke 10 in high school, but I think it took until his last race to do it. I think at state qualifiers his senior year he ran 9:51. He was pretty strong in cross country, though it definitely wouldn't have indicated this type of potential either.
