On my run today a group of college guys yell out of there car "Get Some Sun". This always really gets to me because I have a condition called Body Dysmorphic disorder so I am very sensitive to comments about my appearance. -People don't yell at a fat person from there car telling them to lose weight. -People don't yell at a black person form there car telling them they are too dark and to go inside. -People don't yell at an unattractive person from there car telling them they are ugly. Why is calling someone pale socially acceptable when it clearly is meant to be insulting? With all the info about skin cancer and aging that has come out I don't get why society puts such an emphasis on a tan. Besides, it's April and I am an Irish guy who needs some time to develop color... |

It is always the white guys that say this too. It's never the girls, and its never other races. |

I have muscles. That is irrelevant to this thread. Did you even read it? |
| Their own fault |

Their insults should be just as irrelevant to you. Why does it matter what they say? It does not affect anything you are going to do. Words are air - they can't do anything to you |

Their insults should be just as irrelevant to you. Why does it matter what they say? [/quote] Yeah, just consider the source. BTW, I agree with the poster who said that it's overwhelmingly (if not 100%) white guys who do this. A nice reminder that half of white Americans have two-digit IQs! |

If I had a dollar for every time a black person yelled something at me while running. It is not limited to white people. |

Y'all just got trolled there is no way this guy is sincere... |
| you're right about that |

This is true. One time while I was running through Brooklyn, an African American gentleman shouted "beautiful day, isn't it? Enjoy your run, man." In fact, I get these types of comments fairly regularly while running through certain predominantly black neighborhoods. |

4/10 But on the topic, you are not truly a distance runner until you are an object of public scorn, usually manifesting itself in people yellig things at you from their cars. Consider it a badge. |

I am serious. Why would I lie about this? I have this below which is why I take it to heart so much. Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD, also body dysmorphia, dysmorphic syndrome; originally dysmorphophobia) is a type of mental illness, a somatoform disorder, wherein the affected person is concerned with body image, manifested as excessive concern about and preoccupation with a perceived defect of their physical features.[1][2] This disorder really is bad. Especially when everyone tells you are good looking but you feel hideous. |

I grew up in the suburbs and would have stuff thrown at me things yelled etc all the time. I live and run in the city now and it never happens. I think city youth know not to mess with people. As a side note the last time I did get something yelled at me was by a drunk Boston U girl walking home(I assume) at 5am. I had to get my run in early that Saturday morning. She gave me the old "run forest". I then asked her if she had a fun night. |

Runnermanofhappy, No other comment gets to me. It is when they comment on my skin tone. The other stuff I brush off easy. |

Explain why you think this is a troll? |
| you're probably right |

People generally only tell you that you're good looking if you actually aren't, so your own assessment might not be far off. It's a compliment that is meant as a self-esteem booster. No one bothers to tell beautiful people that they are good looking because it's assumed that the individual in question already knows. You tell someone that they're good looking if they aren't really and you want to give a guy who's never had a date a bit of self confidence. So take pride in the fact that you're probably right. You are a smart man. A smart, hideous man. |
