Just finished a Half Marathon about 3 weeks ago. My next goal is to run the 50 mile Endurance Challenge. I am looking for suggestions on what type of gear I need to survive and what type of shoes would be best (I am usually a minimalist but I believe for this one I would like to make an exception). Any Ideas???
1. Keep training like you train for 13.1 mi including speedwork.
2. Every or every other weekend run long: 22 - 28 mi. Use 50km races as training runs.
3. Add a couple of back to back long runs- for example, 25 then 22 the next day- to practice running on tired legs.
3. Don't change too much shoe and gear wise. It's still just running. For 50 miles you will not face staying out overnight so the gear can be one and done.
