I know a strong wind can slow a race down, but how much of an effect does it actually have on a distance race?
Lets say the wind is 15 mph. How much time do you think is added to the 5,000m and 10,000m race per lap/total?

ive always wondered this too. bump
if your alone for most of the race it can be a significant addition i would say if your a 15 min guy with 15 mph winds it could add about 20 seconds
It depends on the direction of the wind.
20 seconds in a 5k sounds about right to me too, for a strong wind. I'm imagining more like 25mph than 15mph though.
Of course, it's a lot less (a few seconds) if there are people to trade laps with.
it the winds blowing from the north to south part of the track and its a 15 min 5k guy. id say 12 sec max slower with a 15 mph wind.

What if the track is facing east-west?
