Lack of variation in training --> plateau? 4/10/2012 7:30PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
It seems like my college team has been doing the same workouts week in and week out since the end of XC. It pretty much follows a weekly routine of: long run, tempo run, cruise interval session (such as 4 x 2mile @ tempo pace). While I understand that this is all with the intent of building a strong base, do you think the lack of variation is a bad thing?

Doesn't really matter the type of workout you do as long as you are doing something that raises the effort. This is why I don't think there is a magic workout or workouts that will bring you out of your plateau. As you get closer to your potential, it's harder to eeeek out faster times. Only additional thing you need is patience and sooner or later you'll hit pay dirt. Hang in there and keep grinding.
