Whats the word? any moves on this job yet? haven't even seen a post for a distance/head coach yet

Rumor is that there is a possibility that one of the assistants will be hired as distance coach, although there has been interest in the head position even though it has not officially been posted. If it is posted I would expect it to be sometime soon but I also wouldn't be surprised if the current assistant throws coach gets the nod.

Sfu doesn't even have an assistant distance coach so that isn't what's happening. They went through the rest of the season without any type of distance coaching.

Sorry I should have been more clear. You are correct that they do not have an assistant distance coach at the moment. But, they are opening an ADDITIONAL assistant position for the upcoming year, which may be for the distance/xc events. Not saying that its a definite, but I wouldnt be surprised if the distance position is given to one of the TWO assistant positions that will be on the team next year.

Who was that yelling and taking splits at the conference meet? One of their athletes? It looked to me that they had a young guy working with their athletes. I was under the impression he was a coach (I also saw him the Bucknell Distance Carnival)

For all of your posts in this thread redflash, you haven't contributed much to the conversation except subtle posts that attempt to undermine what other posters have heard. This is all on top of the fact that you offer no inside information/rumors yourself.

The rumors I have heard indicate that SFU has one of the assistants already lined up who was not in the pool of applicants for the position posted online. Whether or not this is true is yet to be determined, but more than one school source has said this.

Gildea hasn't been at the school since December.

Redflash strikes again with another well informed post that gives us so much inside information! The link to gildeas information was a troll post, bud. Anybody that has any connection to the university knows that hes been gone since the end of the fall semester.

Is there any news or names of people applying for the head or assistant positions? Are all of the position even advertised?

Head position is now advertised. It will be interesting to see what SFU does with all of the positions amid some of the rumors that are circulating. I wonder if they will bring in another failed coach from a big conference looking for a fallback job, or maybe they will find an applicant who is familiar with the university?

I've heard of 3 possible applicants; all of whom have previous ties to the university in one way or another.

"previous ties to the university" - Kevin Donner? That's the last time the team was any good. The position has been a graveyard since then - Catone is no longer coaching, Moreno is no longer coaching, and thompson is no longer coaching. Seems like this would be a good position if you're looking to get out of coaching in 1 or 2 years!

There is a reason the last three coaches aren't coaching anymore- they were terrible. I think the three applicants with ties to the university were all former GA's.

The school has a history of promoting assistants - men's and women's basketball both just promoted assistants to head coaching positions. So it looks like Tamara Burns is a shoe-in.

Gotta agree with this statement. The school went with outsiders for the past three coaches and needless to say they have been horrible decisions for different reasons. When head coaches don't know a thing about distance training and fail to recruit its no surprise that the university decided to let them go. I'm not surprised that the rumors indicate former GAs/athletes are interested. It will be interesting to see who else wants to apply, and I hope some young and knowledgeable coaches aren't scared away from the job because of recent hires.
