|Need for Speed|
Ok, so I am a very mediocre freshman boy who does xc, indoor, and outdoor and have been doing awfully despite running all grade school. Over the summer, I ran roughly 25-30mpw and finished xc with 19:17 5k pr. Indoor I continued to train and ran downright awfully: 5:27 1600m, 2:32 800m, 70 400m. Now I'm about 4 weeks into outdoor and am not improving: 2:32 800m, (2:35 then 2:30 then 70 sec 400 same meet), 2:32 800 then... 11:45 2mile. As you can see I have no footspeed whatsoever. I'm much more long distance orientated (or thought I was until I ran that 2mile) My running form isn't that bad except a senior on team who runs 4:30 1600 thinks i'm overstriding. I am roughly 5ft 6in and weigh 105. It looks like I have no arm strength but I can do 13 pull-ups, and 37 push-ups in a row. What am I missing? I recently did a workout: 2,4,6,8,6,4,2 with recovery 1/2 distance of interval jogged. 200's: 33,33; 400's: 78,75; 600's: 2:03, 2:06; 800: 2:50. Does this allude better times? We log about 30mpw and do 2-3 workouts a week, mostly strength and not pure speed and I do 9 mile long runs once every 2 weeks. I don't know why I can't race well, I feel like I'm trying pretty hard in training. Please Help!!!
