Thank you so much, man! Did exactly this on the dual meet Wednesday. 800m: 2:11 1600m: 4:57; dropped a 64s last quarter. As for today's invite, Coach dropped me down to JV to go after the school's 800m and 1600m records. 800m: 2:06 splits of 64-62..negative splitting hurts; I've still have got a lot to learn about racing the half. 1600m: 4:46 We finally got under sub 4:50! *The 800m from the 400m/800m double: 2:17 |

Thanks, man! Even though I've gotten about a 54.19 open 400m and a 4:39 1600m, I just can't seem to focus it into the half-mile. I've been at 2:05 flat or pretty darn close to it at my last four attempts. Any input? |

What prevents you from focusing? The intimidation of the runners ahead of you, your posturing, your lack of endurance, you've got to go up to the fastest runner at the start of the race then look him in the eye and say "you don't look so good today" then take your place on the starting line and go! |

Thank you for the kind words, man. ..And my 800m for the season draws to an end as of today's divisional meet. 800m: 2:04.72 First 400m split: 57-58 (?) Second 400m split: 63-64 (?) That hurt. |

Not bad. The point is you tried. And you said the magic words "that hurt" you've got to embrace that 'hurt' then you'll break two minutes next time. |

If it makes you feel better I Have been running consistent 2:03 and 2 2:01's and I still couldn't break 4:50 in the 1600 this year. |

I have just the greatest person in the world that can email you some tips. If you ask him nicely. Seriously if you ask Gerry the Jogger who used to post here (Mr. Gerry Lindgren) would point you in the right direction as long as you are serious. Do a search for Gerrythejogger but identify yourself from the letsrun forum. |

Thanks for all the kind words this season, guys. And it's finally over as of yesterday. 2012 season PRs 400m: 54.34 800m: 2:04.72 1600m: 4:39.90 Coach talked to me after the meet, saying we couldn't grab sub-2, but it was still one helluva season. I've been a bit a torn about being stuck at those times. Coach is right, though, coming from a 19:22 5k in Cross Country to a sub 4:40 in the 1600m the same year! As of now, I'm not really sure what to expect going into my junior year of Cross Country. Coach just told me to take a week off completely and ease into some cross training. And once more, I thank all of you for your kind input into this season! |
