So Lagat announced his racing schedule for the year which I find refreshing. I think it is good to plan your racing schedule far ahead so you can gear your training towards this and not be too reactive in planning your next event. I hear too many top runners say "I don't know" when asked about their next race or there schedules. Or "We'll see." Lagat doesn't have much planned but he gives a good outline and he may fill it in with another race or two. Here is his schedule: April 28th Penn Relays (1600 or 1200 on DMR) June 2 Pre Classic 2 Mile June 9 adidas Grand Prix in NYC (Lagat didn't say what he was running but there is a non Diamond League 1500 here, plus an 800 DL. We'd bet he runs the 1500) June 25, June 28 Olympic Trials 5000m (The 1500 prelim is on the 28th before the 5000m final so the double is out) July 6 Paris Diamond League 5000m July 13 London Emsley Carr Mile (Note Bernard said July 10th, but we think he meant July 13th the date of the DL meet) August 8 5000m Round 1 of Olympics August 11 5000m Final of Olympics The Olympics are pretty early, second week of August, so it leads to a light schedule. I am sure there will be a few post- Olympic races for him as well. |

Interesting, Lagat is following El Guerrouj's racing habits- run lots of 1500s before the 5000m in London. Seems like a good idea to me. It will keep his legs fresh and he will keep his speed. Lagat for Gold!!! |
