I'm attempting an 800m race tomorrow even though I come from a mainly 200/400 sprint background, this is my first year's proper winter training and my fitness is going well so my coach suggested I give an 800 metres a go for my season opener. I did a session on tuesday this week which consisted of 8 x 200m (90 seconds rest) and did them all in 27/28. My PBs from last year were 23.8 in 200m and 53.83 in 400m with little training behind me. What sort of 800m time am i looking at? and how should i pace the race coming from a shorter distance background, would it be better to go out with a fast first lap and then grit my teeth and hold on haha? I've also ran a 1:30 indoors last year for 600m if that helps in predicting a time, feel a lot fitter now though! -Jack |

well last year i went 1:56.. and i did 10x 200 at 28-30 with the last set being around 27-28.. if youre running at that pace you should be able to go out close to 56 or so so hopefully youre in a good heat an then hold on...its way easier unless you have an endurance background and like to kick |

^^ 57-58 should work you have the speed to kick so just go out with a good pace thats comfortable to you.. if you dont like to kick go out a bit harder and try an hold on.. |

if you pace well, 2:04. you have similar pr's when i ran all your times but i used to run distance and transitioned into a speed bassed mid D runner. go thru 200 at 28, 400 AT 59, 600 at 1:31 and relax for 50(but use yer arms) then go for 150. |
