This morning I ran the Tel Aviv Marathon but ended up running about 47K instead of 42.2. I am living in Tel Aviv for the semester, and I thought I could just leave my apartment 30 minutes before the start and take a cab to the line. But due to road closures from the race itself, three cabbies turned me down for a ride, saying they did not know how to get to the starting line with all of the detours. I then asked a policeman on a motorcycle for a ride but he said no. With no other option, I ran it, trying not to go too fast but also keeping an eye on the clock. I got to the start just as the announcer said "Two minutes to go." Predictably, the final few K of my race were slow and painful. But I guess I learned a valuable lesson about marathon logistics and planning. Anybody have any similar experiences? |

I was in the bathroom for too long and missed my XC team's huddle at Conference. Had to run about half a mile to the line, but it might have actually helped. I PR'ed and we won. |

I had to run back to my car then up a half mile monster hill to get to the start at a half marathon, the race had already started and I was literally the last person over the starting line. Missed my time goal by 18 seconds and the first mile was about 35 seconds too fast while weaving through 500 runners. Thankfully it was only a half and not a full as that would been quite ugly after 35k. |

i was napping at a track meet around 1pm before a 3pm race. my teammate woke me up saying my race was on the starting line. they were. somehow my team delayed the start a couple minutes while i put on my uniform and got to the start. still won |

I was on a warm up once and saw a one mile marker facing the other direction which made me think if I just continued my warm up the same direction, I would be back at the start line in a mile. Apparently someone had flipped the mile sign and a mile later I realized I was now screwed. I had already run two miles and needed to run two miles back the way I came at sub six pace just to get back to the line almost as the gun went off. This was a half and I hung on pretty close to goal time but I can't imagine that helped my race. I have also misjudged my warm ups on point to point courses where I ran to the start but those always seemed to turn out ok. |

A 15K on a new, yet unopened toll road. Got lost on the way to the race, arrived, and heard the gun go off as we exited the car. Three of my teammates and I ran to the start, and passed every single runner except for one. |
