Galen Rupp will be 26 in May and he has peaked. He will not improve any more, at least at the distances he has already competed in. His career bests will be 13:06, 26:48 and whatever he can eventually run in a marathon, perhaps 2:06 or so. Congratulations on a fine career, and of course he is not done, as he will continue at a fairly high level if he stays healthy. |

Well, I am correct. The average fanboy is the last to recognize when an athlete has peaked. Rupp has peaked, and this is hardly going out on a limb. |

El G peaked in 1999. After that he won an Olympic Silver, two Olympic Golds and two World Championship Golds. |

I know it's a troll ... but ... Just 6 weeks or so he set a two mile indoor record while sick. And 13:06 will be going down this year. |

I really think he has to consider the marathon this fall. He simply can't kick with the big guns but has the fitness to hang with them for a while. He may not be the best marathoner out there but he is good enough to place well in some major marathons and run some solid times. |

Yeah, he's not good enough to medal on the track, but moving to the marathon would sort of be a Canova-like admission of defeat (which could have a nice silver lining). |

He's got time to hang around on the track for a couple more years and then take his time to move up to the marathon. He could be the first white guy to run under 42 in a 15K or 59 in the half marathon if he wanted to. He's in no rush to go to the marathon. The dude literally just ran sub 8:10 for the 2 mile INDOORS. His next AR outdoors could be the 2 mile if they do that at Pre again. He's in no hurry to move up at all. |

I'm not commenting on whether Rupp has peaked, but El Guerrouj ran his 3:26.00 when he was 23. Lagat ran his 3:26 at age 26. Geb and Bekele also ran their best times in their primary events between 21 and 26. Lagat (like El G) may have won medals well after 26, but he did not run faster in the 1500. By extension, Rupp might need to move up to the marathon if he doesn't win a medal in London. |

I agree with a sub 13 min 5k. It just seems like that has always been a goal, and now that 3 other Americans ran that fast, he needs to as well. I do think his years on the track are limited though. I do care what Salazar says about Rupp's speed, he obviously doesn't have enough to compete internationally at the 1500-10k. The marathon is calling his name. |

Rupp will indeed get under 13 in the 5000, and more than once. Don't know if he'll ever medal in the big ones. Fast times as a definition of peaking? Certainly you could argue Bekele peaked in '08-'09 based on all that gold... |
