It really hasn't been all that long since Webb ran well. In summer of 2010 he ran well at the end of the year. Webb's 2010 Progression:

August 14th, 2010: 800: 1:52.32, 7th place (winning time: 1:49.4)
August 28th, 2010: 1500: 3:41.16, 1st place
September 3rd, 2010: 800: 1:48.34
September 9th, 2010: 1500: 3:36.21, 5th place
September 26th, 2010: 5th Ave Mile: 3:53.72, 4th place
November 24th, 2010: 5k: 13:36, 1st place (Beating Rupp)

Webb can definitely get down to 3:33 again this year. I don't know if he will ever be the 1:43/3:30/3:46 guy he was... but he certainly can be a 1:46/3:33/3:50 guy again. The question is... with Lomong, Monzano, Wheating and Centro... will that be enough to make the Olympics?

Along with Torrance and Brown, the above 4 and Webb would make for a very interesting final at the Olympic Trials.

Umm. ever hear of Lagat? He is older than 31 and still one of the best. It can be done.

Lol! That's your argument? Lagat did it so this random dude on Letsrun can do it too?

All doping accusations aside for a moment, Lagat is a FREAK. And he's been a consistent freak for a very long time. Dude seems downright invincible at times. "Consistent" is not a term I would use to describe Alan Webb.

I think Robbie and Webbie can make a nice couple together. They will end up falling in love with each other and shaving their hairy Jewish chests together. How romantic! It will be a big improvement for Webbie having Robbie taking him from behind.

He's the fastest US miler of all-time. He has only run 13:10 in the 5k, i'm not sure how many people are ahead of him, but its at least 5. There is little reason to think that he would be more successful at 5k than the 1500. Its not his lack of speed in the mile that is his problem, he ran 1:43. A 3:30 guy with 1:43 speed should be able to win a 1500 champ race.
oh please

How about because Webb has taken one shot at running a 5k (off of miler training), while every person ahead of him was a 3k/5k or even 10k guy. Lagat is clearly a 3k/5 guy these days.

Obviously I do not know personally that Webb is better at the 800m/1500m than 5k/10k. Neither do you. However, Alberto Salazar probably does have some insight into the situation, and he choose to train Webb for the 800/1500m after reading his logs, saying something to the effect of "Webb should be able to run a lot faster in the mile." And I personally will defer to Salazar on that. Warhurst, too, thought that Webb was a miler.

Last thing Al wants is an american who can beat his boy so of course Al wants Webb to run the 800/1500 ya get it?

Too much talk about Webb on Letsrun. Just wait to see what happens.

Seems like Webb is being treated like the want-to-be movie star or maybe the long forgotten movie star and his publicist keeps him in front of the public by organizing ribbon cutting ceremonies to grocery stores and car washes.
