New x-fit slogan "Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout"
New x-fit slogan "Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your workout"
How is that degrading women? Both sexes do it.
That's ignorant. But the advertising and marketing fields aren't exactly a bastion of deep thinking, tactful persons. Maybe it's a crossfit thing, specific to the self-absorbed, latest trend crowd.
If anything, it's degrading to men. The ad is supposed to appeal to men who...
1) want the physique of the man in the ad, musclebound beyond what is natural (ie. without use of steroids or professional level talent and background).
2) want to imagine themselves as the kind of man who could have two women at the same time and get away with it, or the kind of guy who could attract a woman for just sex (ie. with the woman he's cheating with).
3) want to be dedicated to "the goal" and place their own achievements in abstract contests above human relationships.
How do you think the advertising execs see the average male? They see him as wimpy and insecure about his body. They see him as unsatisfied with the amount of sex he's getting, or more importantly as someone who needs the affection or attraction of women to feel good about himself, someone who bases his self worth on his ability to attract women. They see him as someone willing to replace having a social life with having a hobby that gets 100% focus and attention.
Is that the picture of someone the advertising execs respect?

How does it feel now that the shoe's on the other foot? This makes me chuckle. Men complaining about lack of respect from adv. executives... What a joke! Oh, boo hoo hoo.
Notice how he said "if anything." He didn't start a thread saying that it was degrading to men, he was merely making the point that you could make the argument that it could be construed as degrading to men, and thus it shouldn't just be seen as degrading to women. Fly off the handle much?

Ummm...pretty sure advertising executives have viewed ALL people with contempt and disrespect for many years now. And for good reason too, most Americans are freaking stupid lazy shits.

Don't think that themanontherun was complaining. Simply stating the obvious. Sorry if you are incapable of understanding the difference.

Yeah, right. And men bear the brunt of their disrespect, right?
Still chuckling to myself...

Humm.... that description of men seems pretty accurate from my point of view. For evidence, refer to Postnuptial shut off thread and the innumerable sex-based posts on this forum.
let me guess
"I want to be treated equal!!!...As long as women don't loose the things we like that aren't considered equal"
Most women i met that bring the attitude you are fall into that statement.
I think making less money for doing the same job is total crap. But women like you are pathetic.
The ad campaign is not very tasteful but it does get peoples' attention obviously, and it does tap into the total dedication ethic of the "serious" athlete that's espoused here at LetsRun.
It's degrading to both sexes: to men because it assumes they are cheaters and to women because it encourages men to cheat on them.
It gives both sexes a reason not to buy Reebok's hobby jogger shoes.
Looks like the product of a bad ad agency just trying to get attention by being edgy. Upcoming campaigns:
"Reebok brings a new meaning to the word vomit."
"Free dead dog with every pair of Reeboks."
"Reebok- the shoes which bring you exciting new cholera, mange, dropsy, the clap, hard pad and athlete's head."
all men cheat. all of them.

No- I DEMAND equal treatment and equal pay- which is why I probably make 10x your base salary in a single month. I'm 10x more intelligent and a harder worker than you, too.
I don't want you to like me. Your disgust and loathing is my reward for a job well done.

You probably don't believe me, but I've been married for 17 years and have never cheated, never thought about cheating (save for the intangible 10 second fantasy) and have never put myself into a situation where my faithfulness would be questioned. My wife is my best friend and closest ally. I love her.
I'm probably not the most attractive guy in the world but most would call me good looking. I've been successful in the office and have a great social life.
Don't get down on men. There are good ones out there, probably trying to find you right now. Go after guys who have values and you will have better luck.
Advertising's a scummy business

1) I believe you
2) I pretty much agree with the general message of your post
3) This statement, "Go after guys who have values and you will have better luck.", has me a little bit baffled. How does one know that a particular guy has values a priori?

Obviously that is something that you will have to figure out a posteriori.
