Wow, he's only 17 seconds slower than Chris Derrick's indoor time
now within one minute of the world record.
I'd argue that this is pretty impressive. When is the last time the guy ran anything over 1500? And to think he ran that quick in his "first" one. Bet he could take a serious chunk off of that.
Nice run. When you adjust for indoors, the track surface, the longitude and the fact that it's march, this is basically a sub 13 equivalent.
Congratulations Will, you are the newest member of the sub 13 club!
Where?
13:36 is a decent time, and Leer has been a strictly miler type, right? So this is a decent performance.
Its an alright start for a professional 1500 guy... Its not worth a, "!!!!!" just yet. When he gets down to the 13:10's or faster I will go :-o !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a good result for him. Hopefully there are some promising things on the horizon for him this summer.
If Mottram had done this in the Cro-Magnon era, it would be equivalent to an 11:14 for 5k
Sebastian Coe's 5000m pr is 14:06. This is a good effort for a 1500m runner.
It was also raining throughout the race as well so the effort was probably worth a bit more.
Leer did run 8:19 for 2 miles at the Pre Classic last year as well so that's pretty solid.
Let's be logical here, starting with the 13:36 "time."
Rainy throughout, including puddles -> 13:26
Uneven gusting winds, especially on laps 7-10 = 13:20
Improperly paced to 2k -> 13:10
Early season-factor -> 13:05
There you have it. He's good for a 13:02 come August.
phuck that. 13:20 at best

don't forget compensating for no asthma mask and a high pollen count. not to mention "thyroid medicine."
If Lagat had taken over and made it a fast race like he is obligated to, then Leer would've run 13:15. What a selfish dick.
He beat Rupp's High School time by 1 second, and Rupp's time was LEET.
i did it in trainers a few years ago.....
Great run for Will. I think he only went 14 and change in college. This a great time for him and indicates he is a lot stronger than he was back then.
Seriously, 13:36 for Leer has to give him confidence about his strength.
We know he has a blazing kick.
Leer is in the top tier of the conversation about the US Trials at 1500m.
I think he can get the 3:35.50 A standard.
Picking him to make the US 1500m team would give you a nice edge on others who would never consider it.
He missed the WC team last year but a nipple.
